Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for shoppers with dietary needs or questions about this product.

Who is this box for?
For the person who orders biryani every time. For allergy-friendly households that want real Indian flavor without the worry. For a gift that covers a whole dinner, from dal to dessert to chai.

What's in the box?
Chicken or Tofu Biryani, Vegetable Biryani, Pappu Dal, Kesar Halwa, Omni-Masala spice blend, and 2 oz of Masala Tea.

Chicken or Tofu: which should I pick?
Both use the same kit and spice blend. Chicken Biryani is made with 1 lb of chicken, Tofu Biryani with 1 lb of extra firm tofu. The chicken or tofu is not included.

How many servings do I get?
Chicken or Tofu Biryani serves 4 to 6, Vegetable Biryani serves 2, and Pappu Dal serves 4. That's 10 to 12 servings, plus dessert, chai, and a spice blend for another 1 lb of protein.

How long does it take to cook?
Vegetable Biryani takes about 15 minutes on the stovetop. Chicken or Tofu Biryani takes 25 to 30 minutes, and Pappu Dal about 30 minutes.

How spicy is it?
On a scale of 1 to 5: Chicken and Tofu Biryani are 4, very spicy. Vegetable Biryani is 3, medium. Pappu Dal is 1, not spicy.

What else do I need?
Water and a pot for each kit, plus 1 lb of chicken or extra firm tofu for the biryani. See the Kesar Halwa page for what to add to the dessert.

Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. Choose Yes, red gift box and we'll pack it in our red gift box for $5. Gift boxes are on pre-order and ship October 26 to 31. Add a gift note at checkout and we'll print it on a card. Prices never appear on the packing slip.

Is everything allergen-free?
Yes. Free from peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, and sesame. Gluten-free and seed oil-free. Tofu itself contains soy, so the finished Tofu Biryani does too.

How long does it keep?
24 months unopened, stored in a cool, dry place.

What can I make with Omni-Masala?
Season 1 lb of chicken, tofu, shrimp or vegetables. Try our chicken curry, butter chicken or masala roasted cauliflower.
